My shell is a member of the genus Lambis (Spider Conchs) of the family Strombidae. They are found almost exclusively in the Indo-Pacific region, mostly in the Philippines. The shell's unique appearance can become even rarer in some cases due to the species' ability to hybridize.

I find this shell interesting, yet challenging to draw. It requires the use of different techniques due to the varying texture across its body. On one side, the shell requires a close eye and attention to detail, and the proportions of its limbs are not forgiving if drawn sloppily. The other side's smooth surface requires the artist to describe it with a much more subtle technique and attention to the form for guidance instead of the clear texture.

Blog due Feb. 9th

After spending more time in Life Drawing, I realize that I have a fundamental difference in my technique and how I approach a drawing. To me, it's all about finality. For example, when I find a new musical artist I like, I feel an obligation to own every single CD they've ever made. When it comes to playing a video game, I try to complete the game 100%, finding every secret etc. Similarly, I find then when I start one of my own drawings, I always have the end product and it's final appearance already decided upon in my mind. The techniques we practice in Life Drawing are very different, because it isn't about the pursuit of a final drawing that looks as good as it can possibly look. I'm learning to see and process my information differently than before, and hopefully that's a good thing.

First Post for Life Drawing I

Hi, it took me a bit to remember what my blog's name is, but here I am.

I'm Nate, and I'm a Multimedia Design major. My biggest interests are bringing imaginations to life and throwing them down on paper. That said, I love designing and writing the crazy scenarios that pop into my head. I love stories that do their best to blow my mind. An example of the kind of art I do is...

The first class was interesting for me because I really need to get familiar with human muscular form in order to be a better concept artist for me...I've also found that no matter how some of my characters may be dressed, it's easiest to sketch them nude first in order to get my proportions correct, so I think this class will be a huge help.
